The Secret Garden Tea Room- Sumner, WA
Spring is in full swing and with the flowers in bloom, the sun shining bright, an afternoon spent having high tea at The Secret Garden Tea Room in Sumner, WA is an afternoon well spent.
Tea rooms are often hidden gems tucked away in there own peaceful corners of the world and The Secret Garden Tea Room is one idyllic gem. Held in a Victorian Mansion, this tea room reflects all the charm of a traditional English high tea.
With three different afternoon tea sets, you have the choice of Larkspur Tea, Hollyhock Tea, and the Rose Celebration Tea. We recommend the Hollyhock Tea (shown in this post).
The Tea
Every afternoon tea begins with an individual pot of tea from a wide selection of teas including choices in black teas, white teas, green teas, traditional, decaf, herbal, rooibos, oolong, and Pu-ehr.
Some of our favorite teas were the Angels Dream, Lavender Lace, and the Afternoon Garden Party.
The Courses
Along with a pot of tea of your choice, included are endless scones with Devonshire cream, jam, & lemon curd as the first course.
Sorbet as a pallet cleanser and an orzo pea salad as the second course.
The main course is a tiered rack with tea sandwiches, savories, fresh fruit, seasonal pastries, and sweets.
The bottom of the tiers consisted of tea sandwiches, cucumber, egg salad, and chicken salad.
The middle tier included seasonal savories and fresh fruit. We received tomato tarts, spinach quiches, meatballs, and orange slices with grapes.
Finally, the top tier was full of sweets, everything from peach pie, snickerdoodle cookie, chocolate dipped madeline’s, to blackberry cake and peanut butter cups.
The loveliest part about tea rooms is to sit and enjoy a slow afternoon. With delicate and delightful food, tea, and company you can really lose yourself in the moment and truly enjoy your afternoon.
After enjoying an afternoon high tea, the best way to finish off the day is with a short walk around the grounds.
The Grounds
The grounds include beautiful gardens, archways, benches, and a well.
High tea is all about allowing us to remember what it means to slow down. To spend an afternoon with loved ones, fully present, letting tomorrow’s problems come tomorrow. Walking into a charming Victorian home, sitting near a window with the light shining in on you, sipping some tea, and enjoying every bite of homemade treats is what really takes you to a place of serenity, a place of peace. From the gardens to the atmosphere, everything about The Secret Garden Tea Room is a simple afternoon retreat.
